At Brazos Detox, not only do we provide 24/7 nursing staff, but we require all of our RN nursing staff to complete the Certified Addiction Registered Nurse (CARN) certification. Your loved one’s safety during the detox process is our highest priority and our nurses must be compliant with CARN standards to work with our patients.
According to Addictions Nursing Certification Board (ANCB), certification under their standards ensures that your loved ones are being cared for by staff with:
“…specialized knowledge beyond the basic nursing credential. Certification serves to maintain and to promote quality nursing care by providing a mechanism for nurses to demonstrate their proficiency in a nursing specialty area. It documents that special knowledge has been achieved, elevates the standards of addictions nursing practice, and provides for expanded career opportunities and advancement within the specialty of addictions nursing….The objectives of the CARN examination are to determine the nurse’s ability to 1) Apply knowledge from nursing and related disciplines in the care of persons with problems resulting from patterns of abuse, dependence, and addictions; 2) Synthesize the nursing process in the care of persons with potential or actual problems resulting from patterns of abuse, dependence, and addiction…“ (Addiction Nursing Certification Board, 2011, p. 2)
