CARN Nursing - Brazos Recovery

CARN Nursing Staff

At Brazos Recovery, we provide high-quality, 24/7 nursing care to all clients starting their journey in recovery. For many clients who come to us for treatment, this will involve a drug or alcohol detox. Detoxing from an addictive substance is an unsettling experience for an individual and one that must be carried out with full supervision and a high level of care. We understand there is a level of discomfort during detox we want to make you as comfortable as possible.

We pride ourselves on being an accountable center, providing only the very best care to our clients, which is why we require all of our RN nursing staff to complete the Certified Addiction Registered Nurse (CARN) certification. Your loved one’s safety during the detox process is our number one priority, and it is for this reason that our nurses must be compliant with CARN standards in order to work with our clients.

What Is CARN?

A Certified Addiction Registered Nurse (CARN) is a nurse who has received certification under the standards of the Addiction Nursing Certification Board (ANCB). We agree with this body that nurses who receive the CARN certification under their standards are able to care for their loved ones while adhering to a strict set of high standards.

According to the ANCB, CARN nurses will have:

“…specialized knowledge beyond the basic nursing credential. Certification serves to maintain and promote quality nursing care by providing a mechanism for nurses to demonstrate their proficiency in a nursing specialty area. It demonstrates that special knowledge has been achieved, elevates the standards of addiction nursing practice, and provides for expanded career opportunities and advancement within the specialty of addiction nursing.”

The objectives of the CARN examination are to determine the nurse’s ability to:

Apply knowledge from nursing and related disciplines in the care of persons with problems resulting from patterns of abuse, dependence, and addictions;
Synthesize the nursing process in the care of persons with potential or actual problems resulting from patterns of abuse, dependence, and addiction…” (Addiction Nursing Certification Board, 2011, p.2).

Our main priority is to provide the highest quality of care to all our clients who are detoxing from alcohol or other substances. By ensuring all our nurses are CARN accredited, we are complying with the very highest standards of care and ensuring your loved one’s safety at all times. As a result, we see many clients successfully detox and reach their potential during their treatment plan.

With our many years’ experience, we understand the importance of our client’s comfort level during detox, having been there ourselves. In our safe and secure environment with trusted and compassionate professionals, we will give your loved one the best chance to complete his full treatment plan.

Before the detox begins, we carry out an assessment to determine the level of care that is required. Our medical staff of physicians, CARN nurses, and master level clinicians will then provide a treatment plan and suitable medication, individually tailored for you or your loved one to give them the best support on their journey from addiction to recovery.
